Seeing, and feeling, the world of difference it does for people when they feel heard, validated, cared for, and know that their stories are heard. It is also inspiring when people have the strength and courage to actively work on their emotional wounds and heal from them, in order to create a better, healthier present and future for themselves and their families. Seeing people break toxic cycles is one of the many rewarding aspects of counseling, and it is incredible inspiration when I can learn from a client as much as they are learning from me. When a client changes my perspective and way of looking at that world, and what it means to be a compassionate, empathic human, that is inspiring in and of itself.
Why counseling work?
In order to heal from a traumatic past, I believe that it is critical that people’s stories be told and heard without fear of judgement or criticism. It is something that I have personally seen lacking in today’s world. I chose counseling because I believe that these traumas have a right to be heard, and I believe that people have a right to be validated of their strength, courage, and value in the world. I also believe in giving voice to those who suffer from social stigmas and miss out on having a voice or feeling empowered. Counseling just makes sense. It explains human emotion to the best of its ability, as well as what a lack of love, understanding, compassion, empathy, safety, etc. can impact an average person if they are never shown any of these things while developing from childhood to adulthood.
