MAYA Organization is pleased to be able to offer free gently worn clothing, up to size 8, to local parents, when they attend a free class at MAYA Organization in the Northside or Swissvale. Each parent can request clothes for their own children, including stepchildren and foster children. Maternity clothing is available, as well.
Newborn and 0-3 month clothing is reserved for pregnant clients, including dads, who are participating in (or have participated in) classes at MAYA Organization, where they can also earn diapers and a free new crib, playard (commonly called a pack n’ play), and/or car seat.
Parents who have an infant under age one or a baby on the way will have the first opportunity to receive the clothing their families need throughout the early part of September. Parents who only have children age one and up will be served in late September. We anticipate having plenty to go around, as we have stock in storage and at least one weekly donation from Kid to Kid on McKnight Road, whose sellers generously provide the items. Generally, parent will receive a bag of clothing—a minimum of 5-7 tops and 5-7 pairs of pants, if available—in each size they request and will be able to select from the shoes, coats, and other winter gear we have available.
Class attendance is a requirement for Clothing Closet participation. Class options will include Baby Sign Language, Toddler Behavior, Toddler Safety, Prenatal Class, Lamaze, Breastfeeding, Newborn Care, and more. We do our best to accommodate parents’ schedules. For some classes, children who are not (too) disruptive may be allowed if you don’t have childcare available. The Northside classroom is much bigger and far more conducive to having children along.
We at MAYA truly enjoy having the ability to help out families this way. We’d especially like to acknowledge Kid to Kid, their shoppers, and the members of New Mom’s Coffee, whose generous donations make this possible.
